ACUA receives ISO 14001 Environmental Standards accreditation

ACUA Ocean is on a mission to deliver scalable data collection for ocean monitoring and protection. With the rapid growth in offshore sectors and increased threats to the marine environment, ACUA aims to be a leader in sustainable ocean stewardship.
That’s why we set out in 2021 to implement not only an innovative technology roadmap but also a robust Environmental Management System. We’re delighted to be able to share news of our ISO 14001 accreditation which includes our approaches to not only environmental regulation, audits and communications but also in our development approach to life cycle analysis, sustainable procurement as well as our commitment to tackling environmental challenges such as climate change.
ISO 14001 is the International Standard for environmental management systems (EMS) and was designed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) to help businesses and other organisations to reduce their environmental impact by identifying, managing, monitoring and controlling their environmental processes.
As one of the first USV operators to achieve this global standard, ACUA was assessed against its approach to environmental impact, management responsibility and resource management – how resources such as people, infrastructure and facilities are aligned to ensure the best possible performance. In addition, the ISO 14001 standard put emphasis on continual measurement, analysis and improvement.
Globally, less than 0.1% of businesses have achieved ISO accreditation. ACUA’s ISO 14001 for Environmental Management Systems adds to the ISO 9001 (Quality Assurance), ISO 27001 (Information and Cyber Security) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety).
Commenting on the certification Dr Sol Milne, Head of Sustainability at said, “ACUA are committed to delivering world class design, development and delivery to the highest environmental standards. Our customers expect not only robust systems in place but also an unwavering commitment to protecting the ocean and planet. Through ISO 14001 we are standardising our systems to deliver on our promises of world-leading ocean data and monitoring services. We look forward to working on upcoming projects around the world with an internationally recognised accreditation as proof we mean business.”
