ACUA’s engineering team makes waves with Oli Mulcahy MBE taking the helm as CTO

The ACUA Ocean team has expanded with key hires across engineering and operations. Oli Mulcahy MBE, who joined ACUA as Head of Engineering in September 2023 after a successful technical career in the Royal Navy, has stepped up to the role of Chief Technology Officer leading ACUA’s design, engineering and technology strategy.

Oli is supported by Alex Liddle who joined ACUA from Babcock in January as Senior Naval Architect, working alongside Senior Robotics Engineer Charles Anuyagu (former Mercedes F1) who leads systems integration.

The ACUA team have also recently welcomed hydrogen engineer Ben Nicholson, mechanical engineer Ben Shelbourn, naval architect Tom Nicholls and Imperial College Masters students Nuria Marti-Brosse and George Alexander who join on six month placements.

As the ACUA HUSV transitions into its sea trials and evaluation phase in Q3, the waterfront team in Plymouth will be led by Head of Marine Operations, John Hunnibell (former DE&S maritime autonomy lead) and Sea Trials Engineer Nigel Mashembo, who joins from Thales.

The ACUA commercial team has also added additional firepower with the arrival of Luke Uransel as Commercial Director Americas, based out of Austin, Texas.

Commenting on ACUA’s expansion, CEO Neil Tinmouth said, “The quality of the team we are building is testimony to our global ambitions and the capability of our HUSV vessel design which we believe will shake up the autonomy market. The ACUA team are laser-focussed on delivering a platform that can deliver exceptional maritime data collection capabilities and commercial value to end users.”
